Alaska Chamber convenes annual conference in Fairbanks

Fairbanks, Alaska — The Alaska Chamber is returning to Fairbanks for its annual Fall Forum and celebration of 65 years of pro-business advocacy in Alaska. The annual Forum is an opportunity for business professionals of all industries and from across the state to advance economic health of Alaska. The Chamber was last in Fairbanks in 2015, and is once again meeting at Westmark Hotel and Conference Center.

Chamber President Curtis W. Thayer will formally convene the forum on Wednesday morning with opening remarks from the Chamber board chair, Cory Baggen (Sitka), Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce president, Marisa Sharrah, and Senator Pete Kelly. Thayer said, “I am so thankful that the Fairbanks community is hosting us once again. For me, this feels like coming home.”

Conference attendees will receive updates on Alaska industries, the State’s fiscal situation, and will attend one of the final gubernatorial debates before the November election.

Thayer said, “This is an important anniversary year for the Chamber. It’s fitting that our Fall Forum leads directly to one of the most important elections since statehood. It’s a chance for us to Stand For Alaska, and to choose a governor who will do the same.”

The Chamber’s fall events are also an opportunity for the business community to conduct important business. Tuesday is filled with education opportunities for local chambers and business advocates. The Chamber board of directors also meets on Monday.

The gubernatorial debate and updates from Alaska’s congressional delegation and from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are scheduled for Wednesday. They will be followed by the Chamber’s annual awards ceremony, the Top Business Awards Gala. The conference will close on Thursday following annual Policy Forum and a keynote presentation from ConocoPhillips Alaska President, Joe Marushack.
